Dog Behavior Training
I once had a pet dog called Bruce whom I was very fond of. He came to me when he was seven weeks old and I took care of him for the rest of his life until he was fifteen years old. Not a bad age for a dog ! He did all the normal things you would expect when he was a small puppy, like leaping about and jumping up unsuspecting visitors and family alike. Sometimes he'd even sneak off with my slippers. At the end of the day dogs operate on instinct so making them suitable for human cohabitation requires dog behavior training.
Fortunately the younger your pet dog is, the more simple it is to train him/her. If you don't feel that you can handle this all my yourself, there are lots of competent professional dog trainers who will do this job for you. This may sound funny, but it's often the owners that need the training and not the dogs. Joking aside, my friend had a dog they had problems controlling so they ended up giving him to the royal air force for dog behavior training. Thankfully it is rare you'd have to resort to such measures as there's so many things you can do when it comes to dog behavior training.

One thing that will get on almost anyone's nerves and drive them loco if it happens too much, is constant barking. This happens commonly when the owner is not around or if they have got used to bad habits like barking to get tidbits of food. Dogs like company so although it's no substitute for a human, some music in the background or the tv on will usually help. If you are around when the dog is barking, tell him / her to stop. You must say this firmly!
Dogs also love to dig. Boy, they sure love turning your garden into a pile of burrowed earth. Again, you need to communicate effectively with your dog and use firm commands to voice your evident displeasure at what your pet is engaged in. Unfortunately urinating in the house is also another thing that puppies can be guilty of and this is also where dog behavior training can help. If your puppy gets very excited or scared, this can be a trigger. Wait until your dog has calmed down before you address him/her. If your pet dog is chewing and causing problems in this respect around the home, dog behavior training can also remedy this. Give him a toy he can chew on and he may leave your slippers alone !
Never feed your pet dog at the dinner table. Make a point of letting friends and visitors knowing that you abide by this rule at all times and it should never be broken. If you don't do it, your dog will end up begging for food and barking constantly in the anticipation of a scrap of food being sent their way. Dog behavior training all centres around letting the dog know what the boundaries are.
